Experimenting with Screen Printing

Mar 13, 2018 No Comment

I had a lovely time last Saturday at the Print Workers shop in Barcelona where |I took an introduction course to Screen Printing. I learned about how to prepare the screen, how to burn the image on the screen and finally I got my hands dirty (literally) printing my design on paper first and then on fabric.

The guy who runs the shop was very good at giving us a run down on the different types of screen for the surface you ultimately need to print on, the range of materials on the market and tricks on how to get started at home without professional equipment.

It is also possible to rent the space and the machinery for your printing projects, but you need to bring your own screen and materials.

I came away with a lot of cards and a few bits of fabric, which I didn’t want to leave on my swatches pile so yesterday I turned it into a pocket for an upcycled denim pouch to hold my ink pens and other items I use everyday to fuel my inspiration.
